My work is deeply rooted in my love for the natural world. I have always been drawn (pun fully intended) to birds, bugs and the bush. I spent much of my childhood in nature reserves around Victoria. This sparked a lifelong curiosity and connection to our environment which only deepened when I moved to Western Australia. Living amongst that vast, ancient landscape, being there to soak in the stark beauty of the region, from the rich red dirt of the outback to the dramatic coastlines, entirely shaped the artist I am today.

But I also look at nature through the lens of a science and mathematics educator. Because of this, my art is where the wild outdoors meets logic and structure. I am constantly fascinated by the hidden geometry of the natural world — the spirals in shells, the symmetry of leaves, and the repeating fractal patterns in rocks and landscapes. To me, nature possesses a built-in logic that just makes sense, and I see my work is an exploration of that order.

I cannot decide between a favourite medium or substrate, so I use whatever fits the subject best. My studio is basically a lab where I get to experiment, test out different textures, and figure out how to bring the patterns I see in nature into a physical piece. It’s quite a calculated but mindful and therapeutic process.

When I am not in the classroom or the studio, you will find me back outdoors, playing with my plants, tinkering with a new project, or rummaging through the hard rubbish for found treasures.
